Biographical Note

As an undergraduate art student at Dillard University in New Orleans, Mr. Fletcher studied design, painting and educational theory. At Pratt Institute in New York, his studies for the Master of Arts degree included painting and ceramics. His commercial art training at the School of Visual Arts in New York ranged from advertising to graphic design and typography.

Mr. Fletcher worked as an assistant art director for a leading advertising agency. During an army stint, he branched out into television production and photography. Aware of the positive impact of early nurturing of creativity, Mr. Fletcher organized art projects for preschool children as a teacher in a daycare center. He was also art editor for R.R. Bowker Compnay in New York. Two of Fletcher’s drawings appear in Magnolia Street, a collection of poems by Tom Dent, published in 1976.
